What Thoughts?

Thoughts on Film is blog started by two guys, Fikri and Fazil. Fikri is a wannabe filmmaker who’s obsessed about somehow uplifting the Malaysian film industry. Fazil, on the other hand is a banking apprentice in a bank (it says so on his card). Brought together by a passion for all things film (and by endless emails about the movies that they’ve watched), we decided to start a blog. Out to share our views and thoughts on films and more, we hope to spark more discussions with regards to the film industry in Malaysia and beyond.

With this in mind, we’ve separated the blog into several different areas:

Articles: Once in a while, we fancy ourselves a meaty article on films. Unfortunately, not all the film articles are meaty enough to whet our appetites. “Why not do it ourselves?” we thought. So, for insightful pieces on film, see this course whets your appetite too.

Buzz: No, it is not where you’ll find Fikri’s teddy bee. Rather, this is the part where we take a ride into Doc Brown’s time machine, and have a look at the upcoming movies. It’ll also give us (but mainly Fazil) the chance to sit in the director’s chair, and call the shots on his dream movies. Get on board, strap in, and hope that we have enough plutonium for the journey back…

Interviews: We do this for fun, but who better to comment on the film industry than those who are in and around the industry itself? Once in a while, we hope to be able to pick their brains; whether we get the directors or academics, historians or activists, it’ll be fun to grill the big people (and the little ones) with the big questions (and the little ones).

Reviews: Arguably the bread and butter of this site, this is where you’ll find our views on the latest movies hitting the big screens. What kind of movies? Well, take this in first: Fazil, based in Malaysia, is a sucker for the Hollywood grind; Fikri (stuck in Korea for the next two years, haha) wants to write about Malaysian films, as well as movies in general, more. As such, we’ve decided that the rule of thumb is…that there is none (rule, that is. Not thumb). In short, anything goes.

So drop by, have a look around, and we look forward to hearing from you.
